The last meeting started off with PTs in from 9:00am to 10:00am. We began PTs with basic calisthenics and moved onto running. After running we practiced some CPAT events such as using the sled, pike pole machine, pulling tires, and running high rise packs up and down the 4 story open tower. After PTs, we went to the classroom
In class we divided up into two groups; one group for engine company operations and the other group learning patient assessment. Paul and Mike taught the explorers about the different hoses on the engine, what they are used for, and how to use them, as well as obtaining a water supply, pulling and using crosslays, how to start the engine, put it into pump gear, and pump. Stephanie and Officer Rudder taught the explorers about assessing patients in medical situations. After the meeting concluded, Alan led the drill team for practice.

Everyone that meets the requirements for riding out needs to be doing so at a Dallas Fire Station. Riding out is the most exciting part of explorers and it is the best learning opportunity the Explorer Program offers. Please take advantage of this opportunity, it will give you experiences that will benefit you in many ways. Be sure to review the information under the "Riding Out Info" tab before going to the station.
There will be a Fire Explorer Convention in Fort Worth from July 14 - 18, 2010. There will be live, hands-on training at the convention as well as classroom style training. This is a great opportunity for the explorers to learn many skills that will make them potential leaders in the explorer program. The cost is $350 for each explorer. They will only take the first 400 participants so we must have commitments from explorers by the beginning of 2010. Please begin talking to your parents/guardians about this and how you will get the money to attend if you are interested. We will be giving more information to you as it becomes available.
